Here’s a great article that Andrea wrote for Layered Online. See what you think!
Andrea Daley’s Liverpool
Sculptural sea creatures, the modern Speakeasy and a place to model spot, discover the haunts of Liverpool hair royalty Andrea Daley

Anyone who hasn’t been before must go and see these beautiful statues. Well, actually I’m not sure if they are beautiful at all. In fact they’re quite scary to look at, but the concept is amazing – about 100 life size figures made of cast iron scattered along the waterfront. Standing tall, proud and naked on the beach or emerging from the water like some mystical sea creature. Being here really does take you to another place a million miles from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.
Walker Art Gallery
William Brown Street, L3 8E
We have a number of great art galleries in the city, but this one is the oldest and probably my favourite. Home to classic pieces of traditional art by the masters including Turner and Monet. The latest curator decided to pull this historic building into the 21st century with controversial, thought-provoking exhibitions by photographer Rankin and artist Grayson Perry. A perfect blend of the old and new plus the cafe does a lovely cuppa, and it’s right opposite my work – the perfect quiet hideaway!
41 Slater Street, L1 4BX
A gem of a bar that plays the music I love – you can find everything here from Chaka Demus & Pliers ‘Murder She Wrote’ to R Kelly’s ‘Bump N’ Grind’. It’s like listening to my own iPod. And the Five Dollar Shakes are to die for – amazing – a cocktail with probably your whole calorie allowance for an entire week served in a milk bottle. Definitely don’t go after a big meal.
4-5 Wolstenholme Square, L1 4JJ
The best hidden treasure Liverpool has to offer I think. This quirky venue is probably a mystery to most Scousers but is an amazing place to find up-and-coming comedians, well-established hip hop artists wanting to do intimate gigs and everything in-between. Their monthly fancy dress-themed nights are one of the hottest tickets in town for those in-the-know.
65-67 Bold Street, L1 4EZ
I come here all the time to model spot. Not only is it filled with the young, hip and beautiful, it also does a great selection of teas, cakes and other delicious treats, so I can combine people watching with stuffing my face.
Berry & Rye
48 Berry Street, L1 4JQ
Channeling the Speakeasy vibe that’s so hot in NYC right now and playing music from the jazz era, this bar (with no sign on the door and a special knock to enter) would be easy to miss. If you do manage to find it and get in, you’re in for a real treat. Malibu or Southern Comfort drinkers beware, as they only serve ‘quality’ spirits, and so it seems ironic that I was once served a cocktail here in a miniature wheelie bin!
