Salon Talk: Blorange, Hygge and underliner – words that sound made up but aren’t!

Alia Shawkat is our style star of the week. The quirky indie actress of the moment has been on our radar since the early days of the cult TV show Arrested Development but she’s al grown up now and we are all in love with her hair. While the rest of her peers might be tempted towards long, blond extensions, Alia’s hair is short, dark and curly like a modern and oh so fashionable version of Rizzo from Grease. We’ll definitely be shouting ‘Tell me more, tell me more’ about Alia’s future style choices.

The weather’s been so drab the last couple of weeks that the Swedish idea of ‘hygge’ which had us all talking recently has never sounded so appealing. The cosiness concept of wrapping up warm by the fire has taken the world by storm so much so that it was only a matter of time before the hairdressing world took notice. Yes, now you can ‘hygge’ your hair, by opting for subtle warm highlights. The weather might be cold but at least your hair will be warm!

Upside down makeup is a growing trend to look forward to. Don’t worry, you won’t be putting lipstick  on your eyebrows, it’s just about lining under your eye instead of on the lid. Everyone’s doing it from Janelle Monae to Mandy Moore and it’s a great way to add a pop of colour to your look without having to go too over the top. While that look is a definite winner, the ombre lip trend is probably not going to set the fashion world alight. It’s a top lip with a lighter bottom lip or vice versa. Whichever way round you do it, it stilllooks like you’ve got food round your mouth. Not a great look!

So we’ve had  bronde and blondette and all the blonde/brunette hybrids but 2017 is set to bring us ‘blorange’ a heady mix of blonde and orange that is set to be the hottest hair trend for the next few months.I’m really excited to be giving it a go in the salon but it’s not one to try at home though, better leave it to the professionals or your hair  might end up looking like  chips with ketchup dregs running through it.

Twenty one years ago may seem like a long time ago and in fashion that can be a life time but who can forget that electric blue suit Leonardo Di Caprio’s Romeo wore to marry Juliet in William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet? Well, not the people at ASOS, who are launching a Romeo and Juliet collecton inspired by Baz Luhrmann’s film. Romeo, oh Romeo wherefore aren’t thou ordering it all for me now?

It hasn’t been showing new episodes for years now but it’s impossible to miss Friends as it’s always on but if you are feeling a bit nostalgia for the show that launched a thousand variations on the Rachel cut, then you’re in luck – a theatre company in London are recreating the show with a modern day setting and the best thing is its name – Mates!

Playing music depending on what mood you’re in is nothing new but what if you didn’t have to pick the songs. A new technology company called Solo have invented a radio system that can register your emotions by looking at your face and then selects songs to suit how it thinks you feel. Spooky!

Planning a wedding can be stressful and a lot of brides give their chief bridesmaids some responsibilities to help lighten the load but what if she hasn’t got time to pitch in? Well, a company in America are hiring out bridesmaids not for the big day but to do the tasks that the maid of honour would normally do like help with the party favours and organising your lists to make sure you have everything and keeping you calm. I wonder if I can get one for every day?
